UNIONDALE, N.Y. — The Islanders spent the day at Nassau Coliseum preparing for tomorrow’s much anticipated preseason game at the Barclays Center against the Devils.
After practice, Jack Capuano was not sure of the lineup or the starting goaltender for tomorrow’s game. Either Anders Nilsson or Evgeni Nabokov will get the start against New Jersey, and whoever does start “is going to get most of the action tomorrow.” The Record’s Tom Gulitti is reporting that the Devils will start Corey Schneider.
The Islanders announced this morning that Cal Clutterbuck will miss the next four to six weeks with a laceration his leg sustained on Tuesday against Calgary. It was Clutterbuck’s first time wearing the Isles orange and blue since being acquired for Nino Niederreiter back in June.
Due to the injury Jack Capuano had Colin McDonald practice in Clutterbuck’s spot on the third line, with Michael Grabner and Peter Regin.
The full line and defensive pairings from today’s practice:
Colin McDonald on tomorrow’s game in Brooklyn:
“I think everyone is looking forward to playing that game. Obviously it’s going to give us a little sneak peak of what’s to come in two years. I thought we had a lot of fun just even in the opening of training camp there and seeing the new building. It will be nice to see what it’s like with all the lights on and the scoreboard going, and obviously the fans in there. I think everyone is going to be a little bite more excited for this preseason game than maybe some other ones.”
John Tavares on Tomorrow’s Brooklyn game:
Obviously the circumstances are a little different in terms of why we’re playing there and the significance of the arena, and the location. I said it kind of last week, but it will probably feel a little bit like a neutral site game. But obviously we’ll have our fans right there behind us and I’m sure they’re looking forward to it. We’re looking forward to it and another game to get ready for the season.
Speaking of Tavares, he celebrated his 23rd birthday today.
