John Tavares has been named a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy, along with Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals.

Tavares played in all 48 games this season for the Islanders, and over that time he scored 28 goals and had 19 assists for 47 points. Tavares’s 28 goals are good enough to be ranked third in the NHL in scoring. Only Steven Stamokos and Ovechkin had more goals than Tavares. Through the playoffs he has racked up two goals and two assists for two points.

Crosby finished the year with only 15 goals, but had 41 assists and 56 points. Ovechkin is the 2013 winner of the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy with 32 goals on the season.

Due to the the lockout there is no set plan for an award show this season, but the winner will be announced during the Stanley Cup Final.
