Isles Trade Niederrieter for Clutterbuck and Third Round Pick

The Islanders have dealt Nino Niederreiter to the Minnesota Wild for Cal Clutterbuck and a third round pick in a draft day trade.

Niederreiter and the Islanders have been at odds over this past season and had demanded a trade if he wasn’t going to be called up to the Islanders. He spent the year in AHL Bridgeport, where he put up 50 points (28 goals, 22 assists)  in 74 games. Niederreiter was drafted fifth overall in 2010, but just did not pan out in the Isles organization.

In return for the 20-year-old the Islanders receive Clutterbuck, who put up 10 points (4 goals 6 assists). He has also come in second the last three years behind the Islanders’ Matt Martin in hits. They also get the 3rd round selection in this years draft.
