The Islanders will open training camp next Thursday, September 12, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
As first reported by News 12’s Kevin Maher and later confirmed by Newsday’s Arthur Staple, the Isles will spend the first day of training camp in their future home in Brooklyn. Thursday’s training camp session will be the only one at Barclays Center and will not be open to the public.
The remainder of camp will be held on Long Island. Players will report on Wednesday, September 11, for physicals
Staple also reported this morning that the Islanders will name John Tavares captain early next week. Tavares has been the perennial favorite since the team’s former captain, Mark Streit, was traded to Philadelphia.
